Der Spiegel described the Austrian Film Museum as "one of the most agile Cinémathèques in Europe". It was founded by Peter Konlechner and Peter Kubelka in 1964, and Martin Scorsese currently serves as its Honorary President. The Film Museum preserves and screens films. Its original tenets still apply: "Films deserve to be placed on an equal footing with works of art. Films are specific products of collective memory. They must be preserved and shown in the same fashion as historical source materials and documents”.

Cinemateca Uruguaya was established in 1952, when two important film clubs came together. It is a non-profit cinematheque that safeguards Uruguayan film heritage, hosts film screenings, and fosters film education. It organized the first International Film Festival of Uruguay during the dictatorship years (1973-1985), when individual rights were restricted: cinematheque and festival became symbols of resistance against the anti-democratic regime, and places “of meeting and freedom”. Cinemateca Uruguaya is celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2022.

The Korean Film Archive (KOFA) was founded in Seoul in 1974 as a non-profit organization. It preserves Korean films and film-related materials and makes them accessible. KOFA has published several features of the Classic Korean Cinema DVD Collections. It also operates the most reliable online database of Korean films, as well as an online film streaming service. Its main center, a five-floor building, includes Cinematheque KOFA, the Korean Film Museum, and a Film Reference Library. It also publishes the highly regarded quarterly magazine 'Archive Prism'.

Filmoteca de Castilla y León was established as a film archive in the city of Salamanca in 1990. It preserves film, and hosts film screenings and photo exhibitions. It also has a research center, a film library and exhibition halls. Its permanent exhibition “Artilugios para Fascinar” (“Fascinanting Contraptions”) displays the wonderful collection that belonged to Spanish filmmaker Basilio Martín Patino (born in the province of Salamanca) which is dedicated to pre-cinema and the history of cinema.

Le Fresnoy opened in 1997. Its site holds buildings from a 1920s leisure complex that included cinema, ballroom dancing, skating, and horseback riding. The building was renovated by the architect Bernard Tschumi. Conceived by Alain Fleischer, Le Fresnoy hosts important exhibitions of contemporary art, films, concerts, performances, lectures. It is also a center of advanced artistic, audiovisual and multimedia training for graduate students. It enables artists to create work with professional technical equipment, under the guidance of recognized artists, in a multidisciplinary spirit. Cinema remains an important part of the learning process at Le Fresnoy, which draws on an extensively celebrated cinephile culture.

The Federal Archives (Bundesarchiv) safeguards the archives of the federal government and makes them available. It preserves files, maps, pictures, posters, films and sound recordings in analogue and digital form. Its Film Archives holds 1,15 million film reels of 158.000 film titles. Based in Berlin, it comprises the holdings of the film departments of the Federal Archives (until 1990) and the State Film Archives of the German Democratic Republic. It also includes the unit in charge of pictures, maps, plans, posters and sound recordings based in Koblenz.

The Speed Art Museum is Kentucky’s oldest and largest art museum, with a collection that spans 6,000 years of human creativity. It was established in 1927 and is located on the campus of the University of Louisville. It expanded in 2006 and added a state of the art cinema that can show 16mm, 35mm, and digital films. Legendary projectionist James Bond (Cinema Borealis, Roger Ebert’s Film Festival), who designed the Gene Siskel Film Center and the Harvard Film Archive, oversaw the design of the Speed cinema. The Speed focuses on works that inspire, excite, and spark dialogue.

Filmoteca de Galicia safeguards Galician film heritage. It was established as the Galician Center of Image Arts (CGAI) in 1989, and it opened in 1991. It recovers, catalogs, preserves and gives access to audiovisual heritage. It also programs and hosts screenings, exhibitions and conferences. Filmoteca de Galicia has a film archive, a large library, and screening room. Its headquarters are located at Casa da Cultura Salvador de Madariaga, in A Coruña, where it has just reopened its newly renovated screening room, in September 2022.

Cinémathèque Suisse preserves, restores, and promotes film heritage. It is today one of the ten most important film archives in the world thanks to the extent of its collections. Founded in 1948, Cinémathèque Suisse organizes screenings at the Casino de Montbenon and at the Capitole cinema (built in 1928) in Lausanne. Associated cinemas throughout the country regularly screen films from the institution’s collections. Cinémathèque Suisse also publishes books and DVDs, reflecting the importance of its collections and contributing to their visibility.

The original 625-seat Camelot Theatre opened in 1967 as a state-of-the-art cinema, equipped to the standards of only three other theatres in the United States. It debuted with a star-studded screening of 'Dr. Zhivago.' The Desert Film Society promotes the appreciation of film in the Coachella Valley by providing a unique opportunity to view the latest in art, international and cutting-edge independent cinema and providing a platform for discussion of the art of film and film craft. Cineteca Madrid is located at Matadero Madrid, a striking industrial building from the 1920s repurposed into an arts hub. Cineteca is specialized in non-fiction cinema and offers a program that is sensitive to the latest audiovisual forms. It has three screening rooms, one of which (Sala Azcona) is considered one of the most stunning in Europe. Cineteca Madrid is also the permanent headquarters of Documenta Madrid film festival. DOCMA is the Spanish association of documentary films and filmmakers, and it curates a non-fiction film program at Cineteca Madrid.

Cinemateca de Bogotá (Centro Cultural de las Artes Audiovisuales), in Colombia, was created in 1971. Its new building opened in 2019 and hosts four screening rooms equipped for film and digital projection, film vaults, library, gallery, editing suites, and audiovisual workspace - including spaces exclusively for children. It preserves film heritage, organizes workshops, and gives access to films. When Abbas Kiarostami visited Cinemateca de Bogotá in 2013, he famously said: “The first thing I do when I arrive in a city is look for its cinematheque or a library. Those places are the embassies of a country”.

Filmoteca de Catalunya is dedicated to the conservation of film and audiovisual heritage and to the dissemination of film culture. Its new building is celebrating its 10th anniversary. It opened in February 2012 in El Raval, one of the oldest and liveliest neighborhoods in Barcelona. The building includes two screening rooms (1,400 screenings per year), exhibition areas, a film library, restaurant, and bookstore. Its other main site is the Conservation and Restoration Center which currently houses around 40,000 film titles (200,000 audiovisual items) in both analogue and digital formats.

Wexner Center for the Arts is the Ohio State University's multidisciplinary, international laboratory for the exploration and advancement of contemporary art. Its Film/Video program celebrates the art of cinema past and present through all genres and formats. With 200 screenings per year and a frequent calendar of filmmaker appearances, it offers a stellar program of independent filmmaking, international cinema, documentaries, and classics from the familiar to the forgotten: “We believe in the power of the arts to illuminate and reflect the complexities of contemporary life and to foster cross-cultural exchange, understanding, and respect”.

Established in 1941, the International Film Series is Boulder's first art-house film series. The IFS at CU Boulder is one of few places in the US where the latest digital projection systems and reel-to-reel 35mm film projectors coexist. Its dedicated staff genuinely cares about cinema. It screens as many films as possible on 35mm, which grants access to rare and archive prints from all around the world. IFS remains committed to eclectic cinema and draws over 20,000 people a year at their Muenzinger Auditorium (400 seats) and Visual Arts Complex Auditorium (200 seats). It was selected by Sundance Institute as of only 14 art-house venues in the nation to participate in the Art House Project. IFS just turned 80 years old.

The Dryden Theatre, at George Eastman Museum, opened in 1951. Presenting film screenings every day of the week, the 500-seat Dryden is devoted to showing all films in their original formats. It is one of the very few theaters in the world that can still show nitrate film. It was funded by George Dryden, widower of George Eastman's niece, Ellen Dryden. George Eastman founded Kodak Co. in 1888 in Rochester, NY. George Eastman Museum is the world's oldest museum dedicated to photography, one of the oldest film archives and a leader in film preservation.
